Don't Forget About Run for the Wall TOMORROW!
We need to get as many folks as possible to turn out to welcome Run for the Wall on Tuesday, May 25, 6:00 p.m. as they roll into Downtown Corydon and to the Fairgrounds. RFTW is a cross-country motorcycle ride made up mostly of Veterans. They are riding to DC to visit the Vietnam Memorial (Wall) and to attend other Memorial Day weekend ceremonies.
Originated over 20 years ago, the first rides were probably mostly made up of Vietnam Vetarans. As they are getting older, and as other veterans of other wars are coming home, younger veterans are joining the ride. For some, this is a chance to get the welcome home they never got. For all, this is a way to honor those they served with, to remember those that didn't make it back, and a way to be together to heal from the unseen scars of war. This is a special opportunity to participate in the Memorial Day Weekend.
Please come out on Tuesday night, May 25, 6:00 p.m., and help Corydon welcome them to town. Bring a flag!

" I never thought the loss of a building would be like the loss of a friend. The Blue River Cafe was a birthplace of friendships, a home for the homeless and a central hub for a group of the most amazing community I've ever been... a part of. Today is a very sad day." --Lisa Mc Spadden

National Travel and Tourism Week
In honor of "National Travel and Tourism Week" May 8-16. The Harrison County Convention and Visitors Bureau (HCCVB) has planned many activities to celebrate the tremendous economic, social and cultural impact travel and tourism has had in Harrison County; and the local hospitality and tourism employees who keep the visitors coming back, year after year.
The U.S. Travel Association reports that travel and tourism is one of America's largest industries. Direct spending by domestic and international travelers generated $704 billion in the nation's economy last year. The industry also represents one of America's largest employers, accounting for more than 10 million direct and indirect jobs. Though the travel workforce has declined as a result of the prolonged recession, the industry expects to add 90,000 new American jobs due to modest gains in travel expected in 2010.
In recognition of travel and tourism's tremendous economic, social and cultural impact in Harrison County, the HCCVB will be observing "National Travel and Tourism Week" May 8-16 with an open house at the Blaine H. Wiseman Visitor Center. Free popcorn and a special gift will be given to local residents. Tourism promotion is funded by $442,000 in Innkeeper's Taxes and $574,000 in Casino Admission Taxes each year. This critical county function is made possible because of visitor spending - without cost to Harrison County residents. Approximately $318 million is brought into Harrison County's economy each year from direct visitor spending.
